Business tax

Payroll notices and business audits, priced up front

For owners of small companies: payroll tax trouble, the penalty owners can owe personally, and audits of the business.

Unpaid payroll tax is the IRS letter that moves fastest, because the IRS can come after the owners themselves for the withheld share. We answer the notice, deal with the interview the IRS asks owners to sit for, and set up a plan that keeps the business running. For business audits we work with your bookkeeper, so the records the examiner gets match the ones you file.

The fee

How the fee works for a business matter

One fee per notice or audit year, quoted in writing before we start.

  • Set per matter

One payroll tax notice, owner penalty proposal or audit of one business tax year.

  • What it covers

    • Power of attorney for the business and its owners

    • The owner interview, with us present

    • A payment plan for the business, if it needs one

    • Work with your bookkeeper or accountant

  • Paying it

Half when you sign the engagement letter and half when the matter closes, or split into monthly payments set out in the letter.

Not in the fee: your bookkeeper's or accountant's own fees, a Tax Court case, and the tax, penalties and interest owed. Larger companies and multi-year audits are quoted on the first call.

How it runs

From notice to a plan

  1. 01

    Step 1: A 20-minute call

Tell us which notice the business got. We tell you what it costs and how fast it's moving.

  2. 02

Step 2: We step in for the business

The IRS deals with us for the company and for each owner named.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Books that match

We work with your bookkeeper on the records the IRS asked for.

  4. 04

Step 4: A plan the shop can carry

We settle the notice or the audit, and set up payments if any are due.

Questions

Asked by business owners

Can the IRS make me pay the company's payroll tax?

It can propose that owners and others who controlled the payments owe the withheld share personally. We answer that proposal and attend the interview with you.

Do you replace our accountant?

No. We handle the IRS; your accountant keeps the books and the yearly returns. We often work side by side.

Can the business keep operating?

In most cases, yes. A plan that keeps current payroll tax paid is usually the first thing the IRS wants to see.

Did the business get a payroll tax notice?

Send us a line about it. We'll set up a short video call and give you the price in writing.
